On February 24, 2024, the Charlotte Chess Center hosted its monthly Reverse Angle tournament at the CCC Main/South location. A total of 44 players gathered across three sections to play three rounds of USCF rated chess, with the two top sections also FIDE-rated.
The big winner in the Top section was FM Vishnu Vanapalli, who won all three of his games to take home the $200 first prize, defeating NM James Chirilov in the final round on board one to secure clear first place. Chirilov, as well as Hugo Nam and Patrick McCartney, earned $53.33 and split second place with a 2/3 score.
Three players tied for first in the U1900 section with 2.5/3: Namish Kondabathini, Sri Pallapothu, and Naitik Rathi. Each player took home $86.67 for their performance. Meanwhile, Triyakshari Venkataraja and Sattwik Dutta earned $30 each as the top players rated under 1700.
Eduardo Reyna took home the $160 first place prize in the U1500 section with a perfect 3/3 score. Other winners in that section included Srivatsa Gundumalla, Vaibhav Chopra, and William Jindal, who earned $33.33 each for 2.5/3 and shared second place, as well as Ethan Kreager, Kevin Kearney, and Lakhitesh Jagadabhi ($20 apiece for splitting the top U1200 prize).
