On February 3, 2024, the Charlotte Chess Center hosted our Rated Scholastic event at the Main/South location. The tournament featured four rounds of USCF-rated chess and was open to all players rated under 1000 in grades K-8. 36 players participated across three sections. See the photo above for the trophies that were up for grabs in this event!
In the U1500 section, Nishita Jaikumar was the highest-rated player by a decent margin and took clear first place with a score of 3.5/4! No other player finished with even three points, as there was a logjam of competitors tied for second-through-sixth place at 2.5/4.
In the U1000 section, Sachim Singh also scored 3.5/4, gaining 119 rating points in the process! Imhotep Collins and Murali Kongot each finished tied with 3/4 for second place in the section.
The two top finishers in the U500 section were Charles Barr and Maya Naik, who tied for first place with 3.5/4 each. Charles Barr received the first-place trophy on tiebreaks.
Our Rated Scholastic events are also qualifiers for the NEW Tournament of Champions event scheduled for May 4. Congratulations to the following players who each scored 2.5/4 or higher and have earned a spot in the Tournament of Champions:
U1500: Nishita Jaikumar, Diya Balamurugan, William Jindal, Alexander Little, Moses Collins, and Druv Balamurugan
U1000: Sachim Singh, Imhotep Collins, Murali Kongot, Micah Cardinal, Zachary Soliman, and Major Collins
U500: Charles Barr, Maya Naik, Owen McGuire, Rishaan Gadde, and Wyatt Bibb
Our next Rated Scholastic event will take place at the CCC Main/South location on March 30. The next Rated Scholastic at the North location will be held on February 24. We hope to see you there!
