On February 24, 2024, the Charlotte Chess Center hosted our monthly Rated Scholastic tournament at the CCC North location. The tournament was open to all players in grades K-8 rated under 1000 and featured four rounds of USCF-rated chess.
In the U1000 section, Charan Sunkara finished with a perfect 4/4, gaining a whopping 160 points of USCF rating in the process. Sunkara finished a full point ahead of the field, defeating Imhotep Collins (who also entered the round with a perfect score) with the black pieces in the final game to secure clear first place.
The top finisher in the U500 section was Ekansh Vohra with 3.5/4, conceding a draw to Walker Brown in round three and winning all three other games.
Our Rated Scholastic events are qualifier events for the NEW Tournament of Champions event scheduled for May 4. The following players each scored 2.5/4 or higher and have earned a spot in the Tournament of Champions:
U1000: Charan Sunkara, Imhotep Collins, Jayan Medvin, Amoolya Vikas, Mohamed Sheik, Haresh Nagarajan, and Adyant Goswami
U500: Ekansh Vohra, Owen McGuire, Lucy Wright, Walker Brown, Shaurya Nannapaneni, and Michael Kravtsov
